MOD: HiLift Tube Mount TM-700

For only $50 at Off Road Warehouse (a discount regional parts chain in San Diego), I got to copy Teebes and get a pair of tube mounts to slap the HiLift on the bumper. Putting it inside the Roadiemobile always entails a delay when getting it out for use. And when you're blocking a trail and more worthy vehicles are waiting on you, every second you can save for the recovery means fewer pictures they can take of you to show their friends. :cheers:

Nice product - I added some 1/8" neoprene shims under the bearing surfaces to prevent scratches and enhance friction. Now I have to come up with a theft-prevention gadget or bike lock.

This is kinda unrelated, but I noticed your handle keeper doesn't seem to have an opening to get it around your shackle end. Do you have to unbolt the shackle every time to get the handle keeper off?

Oh, you have good eyes. I HATE the way the handle keeper is trapped there. But it won't fly off accidentally, at least. I haven't solved this problem yet, so the handle keeper just gets in the way. Did you slice a slot in yours or is there another fix?

You must have gotten the knock-off version. :slap:

The hi-lift branded version has cutouts to work over the bolt and the shackle. They must have patented it, as I don't see any others with the extra slots.

(I think I got mine for like $15 at northern tool)

Also... I'd really like to get the neoprene jacket... I have to spray penetrating lube on it every other month because it starts getting jammed up...

You could always put some diamond plate in there to fill the gaps.. :raspberry:

They said it shipped to me today, I guess they were waiting on the machinest to drill the caps.. Wish I would have known, I could have just drilled them to match the TB stud pattern.!! Oh well, at least they are finally moving. :coffee:

I noticed you had extra stuff seeming to hold your hi-lift on to your bumper during your Borrego ride. Are these not working as well as you'd hoped? Or am I seeing something else? :scratch:

More sharp eyes.

The mounts are superb. Never loosen. The jack itself never jiggles.

What jiggles and rattles and annoys me a lot is the foot and the lifting snout, so I had a red ratchet strap wrapped around the bottom parts of the jack to try to quiet them down. There has to be a better way.

I also had two orange plastic "mega clamps" (from Lowes) on the jack, holding a collapsible rake (for tent site de-rocking) and my historic (and irreplaceable) fire-fiddler / log turner tool.

Did you read any of those tips I linked over from the FJ world regarding noisy Hi-Lifts :poke:

I still need to try some of them myself, the bungies I'm using do a lousy job, too.
