front dif rebuilt due to lift

Something not working right?

by mk3smitty » Fri Jan 06, 2012 5:43 pm

i put a 4 inch lift on my tb 2 months ago and i was having problems with my 4wd first my cv boots were blowing left and right so i purchesed some HD axles and now they are fine. about a week ago i began hearing a clicking nose coming from my pass side and realize something was ether wrong with my 4wd disconnect or my front dif so i took it to the dealer because it is under warranty and the said my dif was blown due to my lift and they addvised me to remove it. im just wondering everyone input on this and if there is anything i can do to prevent my dif from going out agin.

Bullshit.

Your front diff is broken partially because of doing what you're doing in that picture...

The only way I could POSSIBLY see the lift doing anything bad to your diff, is if it's the bearings on the output... Ring gear, pinion gear, carrier, spider gears, carrier bearings, etc. etc... All of those aren't caused by the lift... More specific information is needed.

4" lift? Thats quite a bit. Search on here, there are tons of threads that discuss the issues with being lifted.

You should remove it asap. It's the only real fix. Never question a dealer. :wallbash:

The point with me mentioning 4" is the angle that everything in the front end is at. Is that 4" of suspension lift, or do you have a body lift for part of that? Do you have any CV binding at full droop?

no body its all suspension and my cv's are fine the only problem that i had was with the 3 rib boots because they would strech and riped on me so i replaced them with HD cvs with 6 rib boots. the dealer said that both off my axles were bent when he told me that my bull shit flag went up there is no way they are bent i just put them on last week and i would have def felt it if they were bent seeing as i just drove from back home in north carolina to my unit in up state ny. the angle is not bad at all on my cv's its maybe 8° to 12° down which is well withen parameters.

Ive had problems with boots tearing, but the CVs are fine.

If you drown your diff and dont have a hose on the vent to keep water from pouring in you're not doing your diff any favors... or the places you wheel for that matter.

Do you have pictures?

If you have a 4" spacer in the front (id like to see pictures of that) then you have much more than 4" of lift.
