lift input?!?

BDS, ReadyLift, Smaxx... You name it, we know about it here.

by midwest_98 » Wed Mar 06, 2013 1:18 am

Hey guys. Im new to the TB world. I have a wide variety history of everything from lifted older trucks, to new bagged trucks. I cant ever leave a vehicle alone. Have to make it my own, LOL.

With that said, im in need of getting tires on my 05 TB. Why not go a little bit bigger while im at it is my thought. i was skimming the lift and suspension thread and looks to be quite a few options. The liftmeister 2.5" seems to be best bang for best buck. Im not really planning on off roading or anything, just want something to fit some bigger tires and give it a good stance and not spend a ton.

Any input on how to go??

If your not gonna use it, it's a waste of $$ and more $$ for the gas it will drink. If it's just for looks any lift you see used here will do. No real advantage from one to the other when speed bumps are the worst it will see.

Check out GMTNation.com, it's more for appearance orientated MC's and general issues.

Whats the deal with the mall crawler invasion lately?

The highlighted area explains it, the name of this forum is offroadtb.com, GMTNation.com is the site for appearance mods, this site is more about function. People get tired of being asked the same questions over and over when the info is already here, even worse when it really doesn't matter which they go with cause it's just for looks. If you need info on lifts but don't want to wheel it fine, you don't even need to register to find that, just read, get what's needed and build your truck.

Thanks for the help guys!
I had been skimming over the lift and suspension thread
Suspension Lift (Spacers)
Alternative Springs (Front & Rear)
Body Lifts
Shocks & Struts
Other, non lift, suspension components
Figured would get a little input on function-ability, reliability and history with the different options, Yes Im not really planning on offroading my TB, im planning on daily driving, taking on camping trips, lake trips and having extra clearance on top of larger tires and nicer look is what i would like to acquire without breaking the bank. . . . . I wasnt aware that you guys only offroaded your tb's. When i was into offroading i took out my 80 Ram, had 8 inch suspension and 3 inch body lift and was sitting on 38's, that was a mud machine but didnt exactly daily drive that. ill be sure to check out GMTnation

Welcome! One of the traditional inputs that noobs are offered (besides the wealth of hard-won experience with lifts and modifications) is sarcasm. It's a ritual....and a test, of sorts. Don't take it too seriously. Some of us trailer our trucks to the trails, and are fire-breathing rock crawlers. The mid-level built rigs go on monthly or so expeditions with a lot of camping along with the trail running. Some of the members lift them to look good at the mall, and are scared of dirt. We all love the platform, and that's what binds us together. So we don't get bullied by the Jeepers out there, we formed our own clubhouse. :excited:

We all got to start somewhere, Im on tons of forums from ls1tech, customdakotas.com, dakotadurango.com, killbillet.com etc etc im a huge car/truck nut. Love and respect all of them, lifted, lowered, fast etc. Ive owned tons of different types of vehicles, and love to modify them to my own little touch.

Chris, what you describe is what a lot of us use our trucks for. Mine is a daily driver, I go camping, exploring trails, fishing, hang out. Occasionally I romp up some hill that's steep enough I lose all oil pressure, and shenanigans like that. It's kind of a all purpose, drink a lot of gas, have a lot of fun truck.
Just the tires, lift and spacers will give you a reliable, moderate rig that's pretty close to stock in ride comfort. You'll have to read some and form your own opinion about what'll work for you.
There's lots of threads on here about it.

DD, camping, fishing, tailgating is right up my alley! Playing around to of course. What we can do with our rigs is endless. I will definitely be doing some research and be asking input and picking up parts in the process.

Rule of thumb, on all automotive forums, the members who have been on the site the longest are generally to be consider as God's and their knowledge is indisputable, weather it's correct or not. :poke: If you don't know what the search is, everyone will quickly inform you of it. :happy whip:

I'm just glad this forum isn't one of the ones where if you haven't spent 20K on your car you're not "hardcore" enough to be taken seriously. *cough *cough Ls1tech*

I think for stance a lot of folks are happy with a 2inch lift, spacers and 32inch tires. Seems to almost be the sweat spot for height and mpg, but I'm sure that's a debatable topic.

That being said....

We're going up in size.
Once lifted 03 Trailblazer on 35's, gave it up to travel the USA with my family.

I think more would go bigger than 2"/32's if it weren't for gearing.
I think ideally I would run 33's with 4.10 (or even 4.56) gears locked front and rear(8.6).
I have to get a set of tires soon but by my next set of tires I hope I am there.

I would go bigger than 35s if it were not for ifs.

Ideally 37s or 40s with coilovers n links.

I dont need tires, but want to ditch the treadwrights. Hopefully this summer brings about some changes.

you could likely put those TW's on CL and come out ahead.
