Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

Any other Saab 9-7x's on here. Need help finding a lift

BDS, ReadyLift, Smaxx... You name it, we know about it here.

Hi Guys
I'm planning to lift my 9-7x. I dont know where to begin. I work on cars all summer and snowmobiles all winter.
Now its time to mess with the wifes 9-7x. We have a cabin in the bush and the road in gets very sloppy. Last time we drove in I have to get pulled out by a back hoe.
I do not want to go through this again.
I want to lift it a add larger and more aggressvie tires.
The Saab sits lower then the TBs by about an inch and it has airbags in the rear.
Do I have to get rid of the airbags first then purchase the lift. Or can I just purchase the rear suspension that will lift it ?
I dont want to spend $4-5k doing this. I have a bit of money to play with and I want to do this right the first time.

Hi Stephen, I don't recall any other Saabs over here.
I'll admit I don't know much about the rear airbags but looking at car-part.com if I look for them for a 2006 97x it also lists the same parts for TB's and Rainiers(with airbags).
This leads me to believe you can swap out your lower air bag springs for either taller factory TB springs or even a set of Z71 springs for a little more lift.
I recall some guys running airbags in their stock TB/Envoy springs for more support when needed. I'm not sure if you could use your existing airbags with stock TB springs or if you would need different size airbags but it looks like you have options. I also seem to recall some folks converting their air bag system into on board air for airing up tires.

Whatever you decide make sure to take lots of pictures/notes and document it in a build thread so others can learn from it.

The Saab is almost identical to the TB SS. Same suspension and ride height but with a LS 5.3 instead of the 6.0L.

I was under the impression that the suspension is the same as ours. Accordingly the usual lifts would work.

I know Roadie had airbags in the rear on his Envoy, he'd be able to expand on the switch.

Pull out the rear bags, lines and pump. TB/Tahoe/Aftermarket coils fit right in their place. The rear buckets are the same as all the other trucks.

The front is the same as well. Springs/Spacers/Bilstein HDs or Radflo Coilovers.

Not sure about fender/bumper clearance.

Agreed...

On the rear I just cut the lines and pull the fuse so all you got to do is remove the bag. Done a few that way.

With the Saab springs you probably will want to switch them out to fully benefit from a lift.

I do know that there once was a lifted Saab on TV(i think) and I always liked the rounded wheel openings with the big tires. Wish I could find the thread or pics, but wasted too much time the last time someone asked, but someone else is welcome to search if bored.

Do a bit of research and keep us in the loop on your build. Good Luck.
