The truth is that OEM links often have corroded nuts, and 2-3 days of preparation with PB Blaster sometimes helps. Sometimes, you put the hex wrench in the end of the threaded shaft to get some counter-torque, and the hex recess strips out and them you have to break out a Dremel or air tool with an abrasive cutoff wheel to destroy everything in sight in a fit of alcohol-fueled frustration.
And then you want to shoot the designers.
It's like the typical home plumbing repair project. It might go so smoothly you want to become a plumber with only one trip to the parts store. Other times it's all weekend and five trips and a lot of spilled blood and cussing. Can't predict ahead of time.
