Body Lift Pros/Cons

BDS, ReadyLift, Smaxx... You name it, we know about it here.

by tbangert » Thu Jan 13, 2011 7:22 pm

So I've been debating a body lift for a few months now and it's the only thing stopping me from getting my frontal armor. I'd get the Zone 2" kit if any. I'd like to run some 33's at some point also.

One thing stopping me is body lifts wont pass inspection in Maine, but the garage I go to over looks a lot of mods done. Anyone offer me some pros and cons to help me decided...

Yea, my bumper/sliders are keeping me from a body lift. Otherwise I'd have the Zone 2" en-route to my house this moment.

If you have a shop that you know for sure will 'overlook' it, then I see no reason not to go for it. I'd like the extra clearance to stuff my tires and go a bit bigger.

But I do know how picky some places can be with inspection. Here in MA I couldn't get a sticker b/c some idiot said my brush guard covered my front plate too much and I had no bumper cover on. That said I hate inspections, but I will do what I want to my rig and I know its safer than a lot of shitboxes allowed on the road.

So I say if I was you, I'd do it.

Good ol MA....... If i had the money i would go with the zone 2" body just for the clearence of 35s and plunty of space for the 33s.

I say yay for the body lift.

I'm for the body lift extra clearance needed for the bigger tires. I will be getting the zone 2 inch body lift soon! It's gonna look bad-ass!

I would say gop for the body lift, but if you are looking at getting BartonMD bumber, I dont belive if he makes them for the 2" lifts. I think that he only makes them in the no body lift and MarkMC's 3" body lift. You might want ot check with him and see what he can do before you order it.

Now that the 3" is discontinued, 2" body lift bumpers should show up soon anyways.... And yes for the body lift, considering that we can't cut our fenders too much (especially the rear) its the only option

I resisted for a LONG time trying to keep myself at 32-33" tires with stiff springs. Rationalized it by wanting to keep a lower center of gravity.

Finally got the 2", paid $$ to get the bumper and sliders relocated (not as much as it could have been thanks to Neil who understood I was out of work at the time), and I just pack lighter and lower to keep the CG down.

The state of the art REQUIRES a BL and 33-34's nowadays. Not so 4-5 years ago, in the dark and lonely days of trailvoy offroading.

Body lift keeps your cog lower. If I would have had to pick one lift it would have been a body lift. Our suspension lifts don't add travel just tire clearance and not as much as a body lift.

QFT.

I've actually considered REDUCING my suspension lift once I settle on a tire size.

Interesting the different ways people see lifts. I'd do it the opposite way (no BL, just suspension lift) just for the simple sake of getting the frame a little higher. Even with the lift, those frame rails seem to get a good workout on my vehicle (granted - I need new front springs).

With a body lift you could fit bigger tires and raise your frame rails more.

Body lift it is! I eventually want to go up in tire size to gain some more clearance, but I still have 87's and the z71 route to travel down. Starting a new job on Tuesday that is going to help me fund all this madness :excited:
