How to press out the front lower shock mount bushing?

BDS, ReadyLift, Smaxx... You name it, we know about it here.

My searches here, GMT and the OS haven't resulted in much. Closest I've come to this is v7guy's post (using wrong search terms??), but I need a photo or some directions.

I have a a master ball joint kit, heat source and wrench, but so far the two times I've tried pushing this out it squeezes down the pops back out. Maybe I'm pressing it out in the wrong direction?? Anyone whose done this before have advice or a picture of how you setup your tools.

Or do I need to take this over to my father in laws 20 ton shop press to get it out.

Jason had never replaced his. They're the ones I have and now that he got his press when it warms up and he has time we are going to press them out. But I believe he couldn't do it with the ball joint kit

In short, you need a press of some sort. You can burn em out, heat up the shell red/orange hot and then pound it out with minimal effort. But pressing the new one in requires more room than the ball joint press allows.

Ah, crapola. Thanks guys. I was kind of hoping I could take them out tonight, oh well.
Once lifted 03 Trailblazer on 35's, gave it up to travel the USA with my family.

You're supposed to press on the sleeve, right? not the stud. I'm not sure what you were doing exactly Mike.

And I'm moving this to suspension section.

When I did a set of bushings many moons ago I drilled out the rubber removed the bolt and then used a hacksaw on the bushing collar to weakling it so I could collapse it and beat it out

Perhaps that is what I was doing wrong then. I was pressing on the stud, similar to how I pressed out the upper ball joint. But if Jason is correct about there not being enough room, I'll still need the shop press.

You might be able to just use a BFH on the install, provided you have the right size collar to press on the outer sleeve of the bushing.

You might also be able to pop the new stud out of the new bushing, press in the bushing and sleeve with the kit, then pop the stud back into the bushing. They have to install the stud into the bushing somehow, and I'm betting it's just pressed in there. I can't see them injection molding the bushing around the stud.

that is some serious hammering.

Why spend $130 over $11? Moots bought the expensive Mevotechs and is already complaining about them falling apart.

Yes, that was 28 years ago. I didn't have access to anything but the tools in my box and no money to have a garage do it. Maryland inspection garage wasn't gonna to pass my truck until I replaced them.

I know the stock bushings seem to be bonded to the metal, so pressing the replacement bushing out may ruin it.

Concerning the mevotech arms, I replaced my bushings and balljoints a good 6 months or more before Matt and he's already had to replace the balljoints and needs to replace the bushings. Despite the extra work, replacing the bushings may be the way to go
