During the Winter I coat the entire undercarriage etc. on my truck with WD40 after every wash. $4 bucks a can twice a month is relatively cheap rust prevention. 9 years in Michigan and no rust.

The bad UBJ and the bad bushings can probably contribute greatly to this failure. Impulses from the switching of the force direction (from turning or rough roads) can create really large loads that would otherwise be manageable with joints that are in good shape.

The UBJ and the UCA bushings are definitely beat up... I agree that they contributed to the UCA failure.
