Suspension Lift Plan

BDS, ReadyLift, Smaxx... You name it, we know about it here.

by Troutfisherman » Tue Oct 23, 2012 4:33 pm

After spending hours on all the other threads here's my plan for my 02 TB:

-MarkMC 2.5" suspension lift from liftmeister.com $165.00
-MarkMC 1.5" wheels spacers from liftmeister.com $219.00

-Front shocks: Bilstein HDs part #24-10336 from shockwarehouse.com X2 $132.66
-Front springs: stock for now ( 86s in possible future)

-Rear shocks: Bilstein 5100 10" Offroad Shock 255/70 valving part #33-185552 from shockwarehouse.com X2 $166.64
-Rear springs: Z71 Tahoe part #25978750 from ebay X2 $65.00

-Tires: 265/75/16 Goodyear Wrangler AT
265/75/16 BFG MT TA KM
265/75/16 BFG AT TA KO
265/75/16 Cooper Discoverer ST

-Rims: Stock 16''

-UCA flip

-Rough total cost estimate minus tires: $748.30

This is my first big modification to my TB and I want to make sure it goes smooth because this vehicle is also my daily driver. Are there better buys on any of the above products?
Are there any other products or modifications that should accompany the above project?
I haven't settled on tires yet, but I've narrowed it down to; my price limit on tires is restricted to about $600-$700.
I'm planning on ordering the parts by the end of this week and putting everything on by mid November.
Any other tips or recommendations?

It looks like you have done your research, you can save a few $$ here and there but it all depends on your needs.
Seems like there is a coupon code or something for shockwarehouse that might save you a few bucks. I think you chose the best option for the front without going to the Radflo coilover.

You could get the Skyjacker N8030 shocks in the rear for about $100 on Amazon and save $65 but the shocks you chose I understand are a better shock.

You could hold off on the Z71 springs and see if you actually need them. With Mark's rear spacer and the Z71 springs it might be more lift than you want. That might save you a little $$$.
Sometimes you can find a really good deal on ebay and sometimes members have them for sale.

I ran with marks 2.5" kit, z71 springs in the back, and stock springs up front for almost a year. The rear sat way too high, so much that it handled funny on washboard stuff. I would definitely hold off on the z71 springs until you change springs in the front.

Four tires for four corners...original :)

If you have time, I've been able to shop around and catch some used deals from members. So far only full price I paid for was rear shocks. But I understand the itch to have it NOW.

Thanks for the input thus far. I'm making these upgrades to increase my offroad capabilities, and I also tow a three rail motorcycle trailer that I typically load up with other gear. I've bought used stuff before, but I'm trying to get everything put together before winter.

Would Moog 81114 springs up front help level it out?

I'm running the MOOGS, 2.5" mark mc full kit and z71's and it's real close. I need to take some measurements to see how it's settled in. I'll try to get something up this weekend. Currently out of town with work.

I have marks 3" up front with stock springs, and same setup outback as you want...

I'm about 1/2-3/4" taller in the rear. The bilsteins are actually 5125's, the 5100 are application specific. Browse the web and find a discount code, took me some time but I got 5% off.

So part number 33-186542 for the Bilstein 5125s and Z71 springs in the rear and I'm trying to figure out what stock springs I have out front...

My RPO codes are 6DA and 7CY

I've checked out viewtopic.php?f=15&t=158&hilit=stock+spring and I can't find my springs on the list.

Then I went to http://www.c2e.info/rpocodes/ after finding the link on gmtnation of someone who had similar codes to mine

All I found was 6DB = SPRING, COMPUTER SELECTED, FRONT, LEFT HAND
And nothing for 7CY.

I can't really see any color codes or tags on my springs either.

I'm not sure if I'm not reading my RPO codes correctly or if they're just not on the list.

I vaugely remember mention that the list isn't complete. So you may not have a way to identify what you currently have. The most common springs stock seem to be 82 and 84 from what I remember. Pretty much your only options for the front are what you have, 89s or the Moog springs. There's been a good bit of chatter about the Moog springs lately so you'll probably want to read around a little about em. They seem to be an alternative to the 87s guys really liked.

Thanks for all the info. I'm going to start ordering parts over the next couple of days. I'm going to hold off on buying front springs until I see what I have and what my TB looks like with the markmc lift. I will wait to install the Z71 springs after I find some moog springs for the front.

you did good buy going with the 3'' from mark , this kit replaces you stock worn out strut bushing and incorperates it into the lift spacer, so the money you save from haveing to replace the bushings , you get a free 1/2'' of lift , good buy again with the lift
