community tie rod end reamer, is there a demand?

BDS, ReadyLift, Smaxx... You name it, we know about it here.

Guys aren't using the reamer without sending out $10 are they?
I remember not being confident that it was actually a proper fit. It seemed that it was sitting on a common edge along the taper as opposed to have a real internal mating surface as the 2500 TRE would rock in the hole. It's why i tried to make sure there was a wide path to carry the load when I reamed the knuckle (and took out too much material). To be honest I was workin on the TB for 16+ hrs when i was doing it so my memory is admittedly hazy.

I have to take it apart tomorrow and I still have the stock tie rod ends. I'll measure the taper on both when I have it apart and take some pics. The taper and the major and minor diameters would need to be the same. I never measured it originally, just went off the info in the original thread. Better we're safe than sorry. It is steering we're messing with after all.

The only person who has used it is regulator so far. I don't think hardtrailz even used it yet. Doing the measurements will be good. Ours did not rock they were nice and tight before we even put the nut on. But the measurements will tell for sure.

great news, I just hate that Jason had to buy one but glad everyone can find out this info.
I doubt I do anything until I have to replace what I have but it is a good option to have.

took everything apart and did the measurements...

I didn't bother plotting the taper yet. But they appear to be very similar.

Your numbers show the 2500 as a 6.2 degree taper, stock to be 8.6 degree taper, and the heim conversion to be 7.1 degrees.

Weird. Those numbers might be off by a thousandth or so, but they were repeatable within 1-2 thousandths.

Thanks for taking the time to plot it James, I was going to attempt it in emachine shops program but I've been lazy.

I just used trig.

But I guess it goes to show that the tapers aren't really perfect.

Well, I'll be honest. I have no clue what any of that math means. But are we hypothesizing that late 03 and up models won't need any taper?

Since the concensus is that we don't need the reamer to use the bigger tie rod ends I'm withdrawing this from use. HARDTRAILZ is sending it back my way. Looking forward to using it in the garage for other parts.

Yeah I'm pretty sure. I'm starting to hobble around pretty good. Might even drive my pile of shit down if I can get strong enough to use the break pedal. lol
