That's the one!

That's also part of the issue (and the reason he did the 350 swap)... Axle needs to be really far forward to get in front of our oil pan sump, which is in the front of the engine, instead of the rear.

Pans aluminum right? custom oil pickup and some welding, good to go!

On the 5.3L version it would be easy to slap the camaro stuff on there.

Hey I take it you saw my post on the UT 4x4 board yesterday? I am BSalty. I will be MORE then happy to let you crawl under my TB if you need to look at one before you buy yours.

That was exactly my next post... I was going to say that if at all possible, get a 5.3L version, so you can throw a pan off of something else on there...

There is a guy on Trailvoy who is making (having made) a cast aluminum rear sump oil pan for the I6 engines, for swaps into other vehicles... This could work, as well.

Either way, worst case, make one out of steel (or aluminum if you wish) and weld it up...

Big problem I see with the V8 version.....its long! Too long for the trails I want to take it on.

I have a short wheelbase 5.3L... They put the 5.3L in the SWB from '06-'08... If you're looking for something to cut up, though, better money (and time) may be spent on the custom oil pan for the I6, rather than pay more money for a newer 5.3L SWB... That is, unless you're wanting lots more power, because all the cams are custom ground for the 4.2L, and there aren't really any cheap hop-up parts for them, like there are for the LSx engines...

Nice to know.

Im looking at the cheapest TB I can find, since Im just chopping it up anyway.

Im used to a TBI 350 (210hp) in my rockcrawler, so the 4.2L should keep me happy.

IMO start with a 2WD...you're probably going to ditch most everything anyway.

The only issue with that is whether or not there's room for a divorced T-case... Or you'd have to get a 4L60E out of something 4WD, so the computer can talk to it... May be cheaper to do the 2WD and swap in a 4WD trans, though, because the 4WD TBs tend to go for quite a bit more around here...

I would, but what you gain by going with 2wd, you lose in buying, or converting to a 4wd transmission.

Few of my little projects will be:

See if I can swap in factory parts to get a fixed yoke on the front of the factory t-case.

See if the 231 SYE kit will work on the rear of the t-case.

What is an easy steering box to fit in.

Im not really worried about the oil pan, Ill probably have enough lift to clear it, plus I will push the axle forward.

Around here, there are no 2wds to find, and when you do there really isnt much of a price break.

He is right, I never knew they came in 2WD til I came here. I looked at 20+ when buying mine and all were 4wd. We are setting up a time to meet so he can look at my TB and see better what is involved in doing this swap.

A second order problem is a SAS GMT360 would have to wheel with more worthy vehicles than us. You'd have to upgrade your friends as well.

I don't think that's a problem, especially for what he has had anyway..

But even for me I'm the lesser vehicle most of the time. Mainly wheel with Jeeps that are built well. And on much bigger meats. Besides TECORE I've only wheeled with one other TB.
