Both, but the extended is critical if you don't have limiting straps because that's what stops the axle from extending too far and ripping off your brake lines.

As long as the compressed length lets the bump stops hit first, then the shock never actually gets compressed all they way.

We don't have adjustable bump stops in the rear. I bought some longer Timbrens and never got to putting them in.

I asked about the adjustable ones cause alek has them on his and as curious to see there function but I think they are there to meet the frame stops from over extending if lifted like his ? Correct?

As far as I know, and I have seen AlekG's truck a lot....he does not have adjustable rear bumpstops....instead he uses limiting straps due to his really long dirtlogic shocks, and skyjacker springs.

Bumpstops are for stopping the axle from going too far up... limiting straps are for stopping the axle from going too far down. Its possible that he has both.

:slap: lol thanx JD, I know what bump stops do :raspberry: I only mentioned the limiting straps because as far as I can remember the last time I saw his truck, the bumpstops were stock....however I will stand corrected if someone can chime in otherwise.

Gotcha, your wording seemed to imply that limiting straps were an alternative to bump stops.
