Yep, I like them so far...

bartonmd wrote:They showed up today... The pattern is almost exact, except the siping doesn't go out as far on the outside lugs... They have the same "mold not QUITE filled" deal on the edge tread that I've seen before, but it isn't very deep, and I suspect it won't matter to the performance...

LOL, Mike posted just before me....I think the Warden's are pretty common as well and that is a tried and true design that I think BFG runs.
I'm contemplating the Warden's when I get my next set of tires. I like the looks of the Guard Dogs but in most cases I don't need that aggressive of a tread.

I am in the same situation. I am still debating between 245/75/16 Wardens ($86.00 a piece) or 265/70/16 Guard Dogs ($106.00 a piece).

I'm pretty sure I'm going with the Wardens as I also don't need a very aggressive tread. I like the Guard Dogs a lot too though.

Chutes, keep in mind that the Treadwright's run a little large and you might have to run wheel spacers for either of those sizes or at least the upper ball joint mod. I almost went with the 245/75/16 when I got mine but they were so close I didn't want to chance it and went with the 255/70/16 instead.

:pale: Oopsies. I don't have the spacers listed in my build. Thank you for pointing that out.

I am trying to run the 245/75/16s with my 1.5" wheel spacers.

You have the 255s without spacers correct?

Thanks again for making sure I'm not messing this up.

yes, I have the 255/70/16 but not the treadwrights.
I can run them without spacers since they are only 30 inches tall.

I'll likely go with 265/75/16 on my next set.
For the Guard Dog's that is a 32 X10.50.

After owning the Guard dogs I cant see wanting/needing a more aggressive tread on something I drive regularly and take off road as well.

From what I've read the Howlers live up to their namesake on the road. Very loud.

Noticeable for sure but not bad, pretty typical of a MT. When I inquired about the howlers to treadwright the girl that answers the phone said her dad has them and she can hear him from the house when he gets off the highway which is a mile away.

I expect the howlers sound like the typical hunting truck around here you hear the tires long before you hear the truck.

So I've had my Guard Dogs for about 20k miles now, I also don't wheel every weekend. This year was maybe 3 short trails (about an hour and a half of wheeling at a time) and they are holding up quite nicely. I have been down some trails with sharp edged rocks so I have noticed cuts in the treads but nothing I'm worried about. I would suspect with regular rotations and monitoring tire pressure, you could get 50-60k out of a set of these, assuming you do light wheeling. I've already started the debate in my head for which Treadwright tire I'll chose next.

Long story short, damn good tires for the money.

I found a possible fix the other day when programming a new key fob at work. We plugged in our Tech II to program the new key to the car and while flipping through it we found a tire size calculator. It had a range of different tire sizes in there. It didn't have my 255-75-17, but it did have a 265-70-17. So I selected that. I haven't had a chance to verify my speedo yet as we currently don't have our GPS, but as soon as I find a street with a radar sign on it I'll let you guys know.

So if it works all you'd have to do is ask the dealership for a favor or find a GM shop with a Tech II. It only takes about 2 minutes.

As anyone put on 285/70/17 guard dogs on their stock wheels? The lady at tredwright told me that it fits 17x7.5 - 17x9. The stock i have is 17x7. I know it might cause weird wear, but my question is how much?
