Offroad Trailblazers and Envoys

Weird tire light issue.

Need new shoes? This is the place to discuss.

by Mudwheelin » Thu Oct 27, 2011 10:16 pm

So two weeks ago I was offroading and my tire hit a weird rock a weird way...I didnt hit the rim at all. I hit it abit harder with the tire. The light wont stop flashing. All the tire pressures are the same. I tried the sensor relearn and it didnt work. I did the driver front first, then moved to the passenger front tire. The horn would not sound off on that tire. I tried it about 10 times. All the other tires would sound off though. Would this confirm that I need a new sensor? Just want to make sure before I spend the money. What would cause it to do this? And where would be the best place to order it from? Thanks guys.

You probably whacked the tire close enough to sensor to damage it.

Are they fixable? And is ebay a good source to get a new one?

How does the TPMS work? does it tell you which tire is low? or just a general warning? If it tells you which one is low, try swapping the tires to see if it changes locations.

Ebay does have TPMS sensors, you just need to know the right part number.
This is an aggressive post. You probably won’t like it. It is quite doubtful that you have the taste or sophistication to be able to appreciate a post of this quality and depth.

They do say which one is low. You can also reprogram them to a specific location (good after a rotation). Don't remember the exact procedure to get it started, but I know you let air out of the tire until the horn beeps, signaling that the DIC has figured out the sensor location.

I work for Les Schwab...perhaps I can help. what size tires and what air pressure are you running in them at any given time?

everything sounds like it should be running right. sometimes when a sensor gets a sudden surge of pressure, it will trip out and fry the circuit.

at work we have a tool that tells us the broadcast strength in Ghz. usually a sensor is putting out the appropriate capacity at 215 Ghz....its possible that you did fry the sensor. if you can, find a tire shop that has a TMPS scan tool and have them do an "auto scan" on your sensors. this will tell the the broadcast frequency, and in turn...tell them if your sensor is dead

not every tire shop will have one...to my understanding the unit itself costs about $500. We actually have a Genesis machine that cost us over $3,000...we've used it twice in the year we've had it.

A dealership might have the tool...if anything they could plug your TB in and diagnose it through the TPMS system computer...it all depends on what you have the time to do
