Advice on Tire size and gearing

Got my lift and everything installed and now it is time to get some new tires to match. I am currently running in the front 2" lift, 87 springs and rear Z71 springs 3/4 lift (may go to 2"). I have the factory rims 16"x7" with the gear ratio of 3.73. I was planning on just running 265/75/16 tires but I may have the opportunity to get some "slightly (80%)" used 33" BFG MT at a good price. My question is, if I decide to pull the trigger on the 33"s will the fit my rims and will I have to change gear ratios? If yes to either of these I am going to stick with the 265 size tires. I wasn't really planning on getting that big of a tire, just figured since the price is right I'd check. Thanks

I would think that would be geared to low and put the engine under a lot of load. Make for slow going all the time. How about rim width?

My personal preference is for a numerically higher gear. I had 4.10's stock but ran a 3.73 on 32" tires for a month or so when I blew my rear axle. I didn't like it at all... but they did OK driving around. I know Kyle almost never uses 4HI when wheeling. I can get away with it if I feel like it.

I REALLY like my 4.56's now...but you have to ask yourself is it worth the hassle (trust me, it's a hassle) to change?

I run 265-70/17 on an 8" rim... I know someone on here ran 285 width 33's on stock (7") rims. I wouldn't, but it's been done.

I also am running the 265/70/17's but on 8.5" wide rims. I have 3.73 gears and since installing the lift and this size whee/tire it has pretty much been doggy.

In anticipation of a BL and 33 or 34" tires, I intend to jump to 4.56 gears. I have also thought about 4.10, but I'd rather not regear a second time when the BL goes into place so I'll deal with the gearing now with the 31.5" tires.

note: Corrected current gear ratio as I was to lazy at the time of the post to actually check...

It is not bad at all w my 3.73 and 35s. I do have a few things done and the higher hp stock motor from the start. Weight is a bigger difference than size from my experience. My 35s are lighter w wheels than my 33 and it seems the same either way. I dont think 4.10s would be worth the time and effort and for the 4.56 money I will do a real swap to solid axle i think. I know mine is quicker than my buddies jk on 35s w 5.13s.

I'm one of those guys who ran 33s on stock rims and I never had a problem, the lowest I've ever aired down was to 19 psi and I had no problem with popping beads.

Run a 33" tire it doesn't slow it down that much.

I have 3.42 with the g80. I ran 33s for a while and although it was a little slower off the line, there wasn't much difference otherwise. Asong as you drive smart, there should be minimal mileage loss and no breakage. I will be doing 33s again, and I don't plant change gears.

Really it will depend on what sort of driving you'll be doing on the road. Offroad i'm sure you'll be fine with your current gearing, I know I am, and if Kyle is with 35's with 3.73 then you should be fine with 33's.

The issue will be on the Highway. This would be where you notice a big difference as far as being undergeared. Don't see a location so it's hard to say, but my drive from Wyoming to Montana when my Wife and I go visit family has some mountains in between. This is where I notice that I really need to regear.

When trailing I have yet to find a place where the gearing has been an issue due to the inline 6 output. The issue has been not having a G80 or a locker.

I found a ok deal on 33s (285-75-16) BFG AT my question is will these mount on the stock 16in wheels? Some say they have but I would like to hear it again as they are 4 hours away from me.

I had 285 75 16 on my stock rims and they were perfect. Not a problem and never wore any different.
