okay boys so i've been sitting idle too long and my blazer has been looking the same for awhile. for those who have done it or have experience with it whats the best technique/ paint for painting my rims. i would prefer not to take the tires off the rim but will should it become necessary.

Thanks

When I was thinkin of (and still am) painting my wheels Dizzlenator gave me a tip...

put vaseline on the tire so the paint doesn't stick and then just wash down after the paint dries. I want to paint mine eventually.

You could also cover the tires with masking tape, plastic bags, etc...

I'm currently in process of painting my 5th wheel for full sized spare... Tire is not mounted yet, so it's going to be easier, but it is possible without removing the tire. I think Bot did his with tires on.

I just sanded the face of my wheel and washed it... waiting for it to dry so that I can mask the cut outs that I will not be painting, then its rattle can time. I use duplicolor wheel paint. Worked well on the first 4, but I will be redoing each wheel as I rotate... just to keep em fresh.

I used a single mask for all 5 wheels. Just reused it over and over... surprisingly the circle kept fitting each time.

The key is sanding every facet well,... then washing it well and letting it dry. Then don't overcoat... spray it in 4-5 lighter coats allowing an hour or so (depending on your paint) between coats.

Did mine with the tires on. Wheel prep is wheel prep regardless. I took an old sheet and cut out a circle to lay over the wheel. Little trick: Use index cards to wedge between the wheel and tire all around the diameter. This will stop overspray. :thumright:
