Exhaust Resonator

I know you guys always say look before you ask. I did some looking around about cutting exhaust resonator because I saw this in the built threads how many of you guys do it. Does deleting it make any kind of effect like inspection sticker failure? i know some states are picky about inspections.

It shouldn't, it doesn't have any connected sensors and not all cars/trucks them.

If you get the pipe welded in you should have no problems at all.

i just came across this thread, but it is the closest one to my questions.
im not the brightest crayon in the box so please hold your laughter till after ive been taught some stuff....

anyway, I know what a Cat. Converter is/does, but ive also seen people have removed their resonators? i like this idea, but itsnt the res and a muffler the same thing? or do trailblazers have both? and if they are the same thing then isnt it illegal to remove it? and it is then if i put a straight pipe in its place with a tip added on does that compinsate?

also please never mind any spelling errors, like i said, not the brightest...

the resonator is basically a muffler's muffler. cats are seperate.

so if i were to continue with removing my resonator would that essitually be removing my muffler? and in turn be illegal?

No... there is still a muffler along the frame rail, under the passenger side.

EDIT: No smartassery here... But you should really get under your truck more, and familiarise yourself with. Make it a point to learn as much as you can.

One thing I've done since forever is to just lay down on the ground, looking up at the bottom of any vehicle I own, and look at stuff. Anything I don't understand why it's there, I look up in a book on automotive systems (libraries are filled with 'em), ask a more experienced buddy or father-figure, or buy the shop manual and read it cover to cover. Nowadays, a forum can substitute for only one of these layers.

In our case, the OEM muffler is the size of a photon torpedo, and oversized unless you're a soccer mom.

Thanks guys, again sorry for the lack of knowlege, i've never been car smart by any means, i've always been a computer guy, i know them inside and out with a blindfold, so now im trying to learn as much as i can, and the one guy that helps me with my car works opposite shift as me, and weekends is all i get with his help. and ive been trying too look up as much as i can without having to ask someone, but when my search progress shows up empty handed i feel at a loss when im asking on here.

No problem. In my tiny-town high school I was the college-track geek, and only 'hoodlums" and "greasers" worked on cars. I owned a Honda 50 moped and got bullied a lot. As soon as geeks like me got to engineering school, and away from nervous parents, we ALL worked on cars and caught up to the greasers. But we had a more inquisitive nature and actually remembered lessons we learned once. You'll catch up. But take my advice about the library and some automotive systems books.

Yeah our muffler is almost as big as our gas tank, and i've spent a good amount of time just laying under my truck starring at the underside, it really helps on the trail to know where stuff is to keep from smacking it on a rock.

Highly depends on your state's laws. In GA (and AFAIK, all surrounding states), you only have to have your catalytic converter, and that's only if your county requires emissions. It's a hefty fine w/o the cat. YMMV.

I used to be the same guy. Computer nerd, always having people asking me computer advice and remedies, etc. Got weird looks when they see I'm a gearhead now. Anyway, everyone here has said sound advice, so I'll just echo it: study your truck, read read read, and apply when you're in a safe environment.

As per the NYS DMV....It will fail if there isn't one...Obviously the site wont let me copy and paste the verbage... Moots and V7 don't have one, sooooo...Monkey see , monkey will....And most probably fail....

I can't see how it would fail without the resonator because it does nothing for emissions or noise level.

I've had my resonator off for years... don't even have a tip in place. I cut the resonator right after the last hanger and its never had a tip. I've had no issues with NJ inspection at all.
