For those who didn't know, it is possible to have the USGS quads inside Google Earth (I just found out how),
http://www.gelib.com/usgs-topographic-maps.html has information and the files on how to use the USGS topo maps in Google Earth. It fixes the deficiencies in the Google Earth roads layer, where it tells you the road is there, sometimes the name and that's it, and the lack of marked sites (mines, wells, tanks, water bodies, etc) and the deficiencies in the topo quads, where only the important roads are named, everything else is just an unimproved surface or a Jeep Trail. And with the GE tools you can have more accurate distances and coordinates. And it's really helpful when you want to mark the paper maps.
