Like I said, we ended up unbolting motor mounts, and jacked it up slightly to wiggle it out.

Sounds like a good time to replace the motor mounts as well. Better add that to the list of things to do when the swap happens.

Now that I think about it, I jacked mine up off the mounts as well...

Good point. More expense, but it makes sense.

Well I'm officially geared in 4.10!!! quite the difference. Only driven it ~9 miles so far, but it's noticable. Really need to get my alignment right before I develop too much of an opinion. Just gettin the ABS and E- brake light... not sure why just yet, but i'm figuring it out. The new axle is off an 05 Envoy. I think the only thing I used from my old rear end was the rotors and vent tube. The "new" axle's gears were beautiful.

Took the opprotunity to replace UCAs and UBJs aswell. Need to get my locker ordered, as soon as I figure out which one I want.

Hit some steep hills and pass someone... then you'll really feel the difference! It just has the power right there, and no longer feels like its lugging down during normal driving. I did notice that its still a dog with my 5000+ pound trailer, but I suppose that's to be expected. Out on the highway, there isn't a significant difference in engine rpm, so I imagine we can still hit over 100mph without a problem.

Glad you got yours finished up! I may have a lead on a mechanic that can help me do my swap (much like you 'helped' your friend change yours). Planning on getting some new grease packed in the disconnect at the same time. Fun stuff!

I'm still waiting for my axle to be finished. Hopefully tomorrow!

I'll need to break in the ring and pinion, though, so will have to take it easy at first.

Based off my reading so far, the ABS light is going to be coming from the a difference in speed readings from speed sensors. Not necessarily failed speed sensors, just programming issues. Helps me sleep knowing that it wasn't something that I did wrong

I've been playing with my programming over the last few days, and I think you can breathe easy. I was originally told to reduce my TCC tables by 19%, but that appears wrong. Putting it back to stock, and increasing the tables by 19% have both resulted in the ABS warning appearing MUCH less frequently. I did the increase this morning, still got a warning on my way to work, but I drove home tonight without a single ABS warning or CEL code popping up. Just give it a bit, it looks like it will go away.

So wait, if your car isn't 2006+ there is no easily telling the system you have 4.10s. WTF? How does the system know. There has to be a part or something you can remove or that is different between the two cars. Programing or hardware wise.

Might need an actual tuner with EFI live.

I ran across some info that suggests the information IS captured by a full download in HPTuners, even though the HPT GUI doesn't give you that info to fiddle with. I have been trying to find someone whose computer is already set for the 4.10 gears, hoping they could give me a copy of their capture file to test on mine. So far I haven't found anyone who has both 4.10 gears and HPTuners.

I guess that just goes to show how much more awesome the 2004 models are over the 2002's :poke:

That's one way of looking at it...

I don't have EGR or SAIS or a MAF either. :finger:

Mike, the issue is that 2006+ don't need to know the gear ratio, since all 4 speed sensors are on the hubs. On the 2005-, the computer has to know the ratio of spins between the output vss on the transfer case and the front hubs. Otherwise it gets the impression that your front and rear tires are traveling at different speeds. I believe that is the root of the abs light issue.

Oh joy, then no actual solution to this problem besides removing ABS.
