Just a new update. Today I dropped my stock tank and took some things apart and this is what I found:
My stock sending unit is much bigger than the 44 gal's
There are five parts that I will need to transfer over to my new tank.
One idea I had for this is to cut them out like this and bolt them one:
I also disassembled the sending unti/fuel pump to see what I can do to lengthen it.
The stock unit is 8" tall but I will need it to be 13" tall.
I have a few options for this, I can try and find a taller unit that will be the same diameter as the stock unit or I can modify my stock sending unit. To make it taller I'd have to make the two shafts with the springs longer. Or another idea I leaning more towards is making the sending unit and the fuel pump two seperate units. I'd cut the two shafts with springs like so:
The fuel pump I would bolt to the bottom of the new tank. One of the shafts with spring is just for support and holds the sending unit and fuel pump together. The other shaft is a return line; for this I could attach a hose to fill the gap. The tube from the pump to the outlet tube is long enough and wouldn't need anything further. The wires for the fuel level sensor is an easy one, just make them longer.
Does anyone know what this thing does? I'm assuming its for EVAP...
As far as my new tank: I have the notch for the frame all welded up. Just need to weld the two halves together.
