4WD Binding Up In Turn

Dumping ground for offroad Trailblazer or Envoy general discussion.

by chevycrew » Tue Aug 16, 2011 3:10 am

When in 4wd your transfer case effectively locks your front an rear outputs together making them turn at the same speed.

Basically you need more experience with 4wd as your issue is normal.

I think I made a post about this before but i'm not sure. I tried searching but its not coming up with anything.

I was out wheeling with some friends today and we came across some small-medium sized rocks. Nothing the TB cant handle but something caught my attention and I had to stop.

Anytime my truck was on dirt or something soft, it was fine. However when we started in on the rocks, the second the front tires started climbing it seemed like something was binding up and the truck wouldnt go anywhere. I backed back down and it was fine.

We wheeled a little further to some harder ground and the front end did it again, seemed like something was binding up. Could this be due to the fact that I dont have the G80???

What Gives?

Thanx :salut:

Any noises or smells?
Have you checked your CV joints? Diff fluid? Grease in your splined disco?

Perhaps you had your E brake on...

Thats just straight cold-blooded. The CV boots are fine and thats a big negative on the diff fluid and splined disco.

No sounds at all. Just my truck coming to a stop and not wanting to move until I either turn the wheel straight or give it a decent amount of gas.

thats just gravity workin against ya and not having lockers. If you dont hear any noises i dont suspect there to be a problem. Carefully inspect your drive train and suspension for signs of "unusual" wear. If your not seeing any slung grease, metal on metal rubbing, nothing wrapped around your d/s. I'd say its lack of lockers. Disconnect your sway end links (if you havent done so) and it should help.

Pull off your splined disconnect and re grease it. Fairly confident thats the issue.

Otherwise you'll be the 5th person in like 2 months with an exploding disco!

Just remember to whisper sweet nothings to it and pry gently.

oh yea, dont do it alone. Or you can leave it installed, just pull the CV shaft out and pop the cover off and regrease on the truck.

You're going to let the dealer pry on your wife?! You should get your disconnect changed for free at least!
