OK, I just watched the episode. He wasn't actually standing on a winch line, but what he did was pretty stupid.

Jeremy got his Miata stuck trying to climb a hill in the desert. They tried pulling him straight on with a strap. That wasn't working, so they decided to try pulling him at an angle. The tow car was at about a 90 degree angle, and James was holding the strap while they were moving the tow car into position. As the strap tightened, it knocked him over and pinned him down. He was flat on his back, and hit his head.

Just one more lesson to be safe out there

Interesting. I'll have to see if the Tivo recorded that one.

And for the record, IF you have to cross over a dead winch or kinetic line, always step on it. Never cross over a live winch line.

Guy died last night, when the tow strap with hooks that he was using came loose from the car he was trying to pull out of a ditch, came throuh the back window of the truck, and hit him in the head...

A Good Samaritan was killed Tuesday while attempting to assist a motorist who was stuck in a ditch, according to the Miami County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the accident on County Road 300 North, just west of County Road 100 West, around 7:45 p.m. Tuesday.

A deputy forced entry into a pickup truck at the scene, where they found 46-year-old Glenn Music dead from a head wound.

Preliminary investigation revealed Music was attempting to pull the vehicle from the ditch with his pickup truck and a tow strap

Deputies said the strap came loose from the stuck vehicle, flinging the metal end of the strap through the rear window of Music’s pickup truck. The metal piece hit Music in the head, causing the fatal head wound.

The Miami County Sheriff’s Office said Music’s 4-year-old daughter was sitting in the passenger seat at the time of the accident. She was not injured.

Horrible :(

Really makes you think huh!! I do the good samaritan thing all the time, 3 times last month I've pulled or helped someone push their rig. Last night, right infront of my house I had to help a guy in a jeep bump his rig after he ran out of gas, got some more to find out his starter quit too.
