Yup. I've wheeled it.

Only, Hogans is just the camp site. The off-road part is open land that anyone can wheel.

Note that most of the stuff at Disney is beyond what most off-road TrailVoy machines can handle. Some of it can be done with 33" tires and a locker in the rear, but that would limit most of the really interesting parts of Disney.

Here I am in a borrowed Jeep. Obstacle is "Lil Blue".

Here is another truck doing Lil Blue -- the sidewall to the right in the picture is what Big Yeller is doing below.

My friend, Dave Austin, in "Big Yeller" and, yes, he made it!

Another off-road park in that part of the country that TrailVoys could wheel is SMORR, the Southern Missouri Off-Road Ranch.

http://www.smorr.net/

Their access roads make the trail system on the ranch open to a lot of activity levels. A stock TrailVoy could make it to the back of the ranch. Modified rigs could make all of the level 2 trails and a few parts of the level 3, and there are plenty of level 4-5+ obstacles right off the main trail head where one can play and test capability without committing to an entire trail that would only get you broken.

We had our UCORA Crawl 4 Christ event at Disney last year and SMORR this year, so I've been to both sites. Both are excellent destinations, but SMORR is far more suitable to the TrailVoy platform.

But there is potential for some super trailvoy to be ready for that in the future. Good info on the parks. May need to give them a whirl one day.

I'm awaiting the day.

I'll be happy to let you know the next time we're running in that direction. You would be more than welcome to run along with us. You might also want to check out UCORA Kentuckiana Chapter. http://www.ucora.org/forum_ucora3/viewforum.php?f=60

We're making a bid to hose 2011 Crawl 4 Christ at Harlan, KY next year. If you haven't wheeled there, it is awesome, and has access for rigs built to all different specs.

Biggest problem for the TrailVoys and working rock like that at Disney is going to be snapping off axles. The black Jeep I was borrowing above had 37" tires and chro-mo axle shafts in full-sized axle housings (Dana 44 and Ford 9"). Wheelbase was stretched to 106" and it was 4-linked both ends. 10X the strength of the TB factory offerings and with 12+ inches of wheel travel all around.

Big Yeller has Rockwell 2.5 ton axles with 44s. I'm not sure that 33" tires could get onto that obstacle and I'm not sure a TB with larger than 33" tires can survive the stresses placed on each tire without going POP, then... :mechanic: :wallbash:

I don't think he's talking about stock TB axles, front or rear...

Did Harlan on quads and will have to go back sometime. Need to organize a meet there or something.

Nope stock won't cut it, but still working toward something. Got some help yesterday and things are looking good. Got the wife on-board and that really helps.

Kyle, for a reference of a similar vehicle that did axle swaps, check out eXpeditionXterra's build on Expo (SAS stuff is post 135 onward... I think his picture links are otherwise gone):

Ended up with 12+ inches of lift... if you're considering this, you probably want to remove the body lift. He ran into some challenges... lots of custom work.

When I speak of TB axles snapping, I am talking about the stock parts. So far, very few TB owners have made the switch to larger axles that can handle larger diameter tires. There is a reason all the hard core guys go with Dana 60 (or even Dana 44) axles. They simply get tired of snapping the stock parts.

I've heard so many Jeep Dana 30 front or Dana 35 rear axles break that I know the sound by heart... And, they are equivalent to the rear TB and larger than the front TB by double.

It is not 12 inches of lift. Maybe 8. They come stock with 32's and it doesnt sit that high over 35's.

Some good fab work there, but seemed a few things were done twice. I had that with previous large caliber builds so it is expected. Seems fairly straight forward really. The leaves in the rear keep it simple and the shocks are overkill for my use. Some of his mounts seem to be beyond what was needed to work and seem to be a little bit of looks with the function.

I really do like it though. It is basically what I am going for but without all the expedition gear. I doubt I am ever without civilization for more tha 4 or 5 days at a time. Even then I made it 2 weeks camping in the everglades without any fancy gear but an invertor.
